NCWORKS VETERANS PORTAL

Home to nearly 800,000 veterans and several major military installations, North Carolina has a distinguished history in serving the U.S. military veterans, and their families. This collection of resources provides services for veterans, transitioning service members, and eligible spouses to obtain employment.

Employment

The N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions provides Job Seeker services for veterans, transitioning service members, and eligible spouses.

NCWorks Online is the official North Carolina state labor exchange system. If you are a Job Seeker looking for employment, we invite you to take advantage of our online job search and referral services.

One way North Carolina recognizes Veterans Priority is by requiring a 24-hour “Vet Hold” on each new internal job order in NCWorks Online. Jobs in “Vet Hold” status can be viewed by individuals classified as veterans 24 hours prior to individuals not classified as veterans, and staff can refer only veterans to these jobs. They are open to qualified vets and non- vets after the 24-hour vet hold expires.

Also, the NCWorks Online Virtual Recruiter allows you to create a Job Alert, to notify you when jobs meeting your criteria become available. You can configure the Virtual Recruiter by registering an NCWorks Veterans Portal account, logging in, and visiting Job Seeker Services. If you already have an NCWorks Online account, use that login information.

NCWorks Veterans Portal offers additional privileges. Depending on your needs, there are several ways to find employment:

Job Searches provide a self-service opportunity for you to view job listings and apply online.

Job Fairs provide the opportunity to meet potential employers face-to-face, make a great first impression, and to ask questions about the job.

Job Fairs / Events

NCWorks Veterans Portal displays regularly updated listings of Vet-focused hiring events. Job Fairs present the opportunity to meet face-to-face with potential employers, submit resumes, and make a good first impression.

Details on Job Fairs listed in NCWorks Veterans Portal include their location and time. They can also note focused industries, skills, and positions. Some events list times specific for vets only, then open for all applicants later. Note that you can also submit resumes through the system, prior to the event.

View Job Fairs by clicking the Job Fairs button. Register for an NCWorks Veterans Portal account to sign up for a specific event or learn which employers are recruiting. If you already have an NCWorks Online account, use that login information.

Employers

Working with veterans creates many opportunities for employers. Sourcing well-trained and motivated veterans within the community may qualify employers for incentives and tax credits. The Special Employer Incentives (SEI) program provides assistance to employers who hire Veterans. Also, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) may be earned by employers who hire Veterans. NCWorks Veterans Portal and NCWorks Career Centers provide various services to facilitate employers Working with veterans.

NCWorks Veterans Portal Provides:

• Job management, which allows Employers to designate jobs as veteran-friendly, to make them easier for veterans to find. For this function, register an NCWorks Veterans Portal account, then go to Manage Jobs. If you already have an NCWorks Online account, use that login information.
• Searchable Candidate Listings, for which veterans have 24-hour priority
• Alerts to Employers for Job Fairs for veterans

NCWorks Career Centers are also valuable resources in meeting employment needs. They provide important contacts who are prepared to answer employers’ questions regarding working with veterans. The NCWorks Career Center search is at the top of this page.

Employers who hire veterans may also apply for the HIRE Vets Medallion Program. Employers with this award demonstrate significant effort to recruit, employ, and retain veterans.
