Staff Sgt. Girard D. Gass Jr.

A soldier died on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Afghanistan due to a non-combat incident while on patrol, the Defense Department announced Monday.

Staff Sgt. Girard D. Gass Jr., assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, died at Jalalabad Air Field Hospital in Afghanistan after the incident in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, according to the DoD release.

Gass was from Lumber Bridge, North Carolina.
